What is binaural audio, and how should I listen?

Gordon Hempton records with a binaural microphone, a model human head with microphones in its ears, so the sound reaches you as it reached him. Listen on good headphones, at a volume where you can hear quiet sounds, to get the full effect.

What is One Square Inch of Silence?

A small red stone in the Hoh Rain Forest of Olympic National Park, placed by Gordon Hempton in 2005 to mark what has been called the quietest place in the United States. Protecting that one inch from noise protects the quiet of the area around it. The idea grew into Quiet Parks International.

Who is Gordon Hempton?

An Emmy Award-winning acoustic ecologist who has spent more than 40 years recording the world’s natural soundscapes. He created One Square Inch of Silence and co-founded Quiet Parks International.

Can I buy the DVD outside the US?

Yes. UK buyers get a signed DVD plus the download with free Royal Mail shipping, and EU buyers can order the DVD on its own, shipped from the UK, with import VAT and carrier fees collected on delivery. Elsewhere, the download is the best way to watch. The DVD is NTSC.

Do the prices include tax?

Yes. All prices are in US dollars and include any sales tax or VAT.

What’s your refund policy?

All sales are final, except where the law gives you a right to cancel (for example, DVDs shipped to the UK or EU) or a disc arrives damaged. If a download won’t work or anything is wrong with your order, email us and we’ll put it right.
